WSTR is available for educational demonstrations for local communities, faires, schools, libraries and other interested groups. We have performed for birthday parties, school medieval faires, and local scouting groups. Below is a list of the types of presentations we offer. For Audiences Age 11 to adult:
Basic German Longsword Presentation
Time: 45-60 minutes; Includes:
Sword Myths and Realities
A presentation on common misconceptions about swords and sword fighting. Replica items available for show and some audience handling.
Reel To Real: Sword Fighting In Film And Reality
Presentation of stage and film sword fighting “techniques” versus the reality of European swordsmanship during medieval and renaissance periods. Includes choreographed performance with discussion and demonstration of real martial techniques.
Introduction To Western Martial Arts And German Longsword Techniques
Discussion of modern efforts to reconstruct the medieval and renaissance martial arts of Europe.Demonstration of Longsword Techniques by WSTR members

Basic Longsword Presentation Plus Participation
Time: 60-90 minutes; Includes:
All of above topics plus audience members will learn basic guards and cuts through small group participation. Works best with groups rotating in for short (15-20 min.) sessions.

Hands-On Longsword Workshop
Time: varies; Includes:
Hands-on introduction (audience participation) to basic techniques of 13th/14th Century German Longsword. Participants will learn basic guards and simple cutting – no contact or pairs work involved, wooden practice swords used. Demonstration of advanced techniques by WSTR members. Replica items available for show and some audience handling.

So You Want To Be A Knight, Do You?
(30-45 min depending on age; some presentation space required, 12’ minimum ceiling height for performance)
- Introduction to the Sword – learning its parts and differences through rhymes
- Those Dumb Deadly Duels – Introduction to “Trial by Combat” with choreographed fight.
- Story of Sir William Marshall –England’s Greatest Knight
- “Swordsman Says” – interactive game where kids learn some simple sword basics and play the classic game Simon Says with pretend swords.
